Fix sound problems in ubuntu

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop and sometimes after formatting, the sound doesn’t work for some reason. Entering this command should fix this problem for you. It unmutes the master and puts its output volume at full.

amixer set Master 31 unmute

Apparently, the same problem happens on some IBM sound cards, and the amixer fix works perfectly! Thanks.

I’ve been searching across the net for a while about this…and no guide is as quick and easy as this one, nor does it even fix the problem quite like this one. I had installed Kubuntu 7, where sound worked ok for a while, but updating the system seemed to break the sound. This was the only trick that worked.

    Once again, Thanks!
